 HERE'S THE DEAL !!

2012 will be Dave Cooper’s 15th year teaching round dancing. Beginning in McMinnville Oregon, he taught and cued in McMinnville and Salem until moving to central Oregon in the late 90’s. Dave incorporates skills and techniques he used successfully in his classroom as an elementary school teacher. He mixes the fundamentals with a healthy dose of humor and lots of fun to create a relaxing and comfortable learning experience for his students. Dave has held classes in Bend, Redmond and Prineville since moving to central Oregon and continued classes on the South Oregon Coast during 2009 and 2010 before returning to Prineville. He teaches waltz, foxtrot, two step, cha-cha, rumba, bolero and slow two-step following standards set forth by the International Round Dance Teachers’ Association known as "Roundalab."

In 2002, Dave, his late wife and teaching partner, Barbara and a group of round dancers anxious to practice their skills and round dance on a regular basis started the Sundown Round Dance Club in Bend, Oregon..  Dave continued as the cuer until September of 2009.

From September 2004 to August 2005, Dave served as President of Oregon Federation of Square and Round Dance Clubs. His slogan was “Plant the Seed”. As he traveled the state promoting dancing, he tried to inspire dancers to cultivate new dancers and nurture those already in the activity.  This nurturing and recruiting of dancers continues to be his main focus and passion as he looks forward to each new class.

In 2007 Patty Reese joined Dave as his partner in life and teaching.  From September 2009 - September 2010,  D
ave and Patty enjoyed a year long adventure on Oregon’s south coast and an RV trip through 19 states. During that time Dave had a chance to teach square dancing as well as Two-Step and Cha Cha in Port Orford at the beautiful Beachcombers Cove..  Since moving back to their home in Central Oregon they have started teaching classes in Prineville and Redmond and Dave has teamed with the Red Rock Squares in Redmond  to teach square dancing again.

In addition to his classes and cueing for the clubs in Central Oregon and frequent guest engagements for other clubs around the state, Dave started a new club, The Crook County Mavericks, in 2011.  With a focus mainly on Round Dancing,  the Mavericks danced at the Prineville Elks Club monthly and held two "Season of Giving" Dances during the holidays, one in Prineville and one in Redmond.

Sporting the title "The Rimrock Rebels", Dave and his fellow caller/cuer Ross Weakley took to the stage and called a few complete dances around Central Oregon.  They also called on the Red Rocks Starlight Parade float in December.

He completed a 4 year stint as featured cuer for Roseburg's Buckaroo Round-Up this past June and performed as featured cuer for the popular Central Oregon Round-Up in Sisters last August.  2012 is shaping up as a busy one with committments to once again team with Denny Lantz to headline Port Orford's Battle Rock Festival over Labor Day Weekend  in September as well as  leading a caravan of dancers across to Eastern Oregon be the featured cuer for Spring Fling in Baker City April 28, 2012.   Mike DeSisto from Bremerton, Washington will be doing the calling.

On October 20th, Dave will be the featured cuer at the Potato Festival in Klamath Falls

The 2nd weekend in October will be the 2nd annual Shaniko Camp Out sponsored by The Crook County Mavericks which features Dave's cueing and the calling of Leonard Snodgrass along with more good food than anybody needs and lots of clean country air.  See Special Events Page for more information and registration information.

2012 brings changes for Dave Cooper and his Mavericks when Redmond lessons and dances move to The Clog House on Canal Street behind Safeway.  The monthly dance will be each 3rd Monday evening beginning January 16th, 7:00-9:00 PM

The Mavericks will continue to sponsor their dance at the Elks Club in Prineville the first Monday of each month 7:00-9:00 PM. The Elks Club is located at the corner of 1st & Main.
